How to choose a right fertility clinic?

May 4, 2018

If you have been trying for more than a year for a baby with no success, it is time to visit a fertility clinic. Because this first step will make all the difference. The right clinic means you are exposed to highly skilled doctors, who are experts in their field and the state-of-the-art equipment. And, this automatically increases your pregnancy chances. But, which one? How do you choose the right clinic? Do you google it? Read the reviews? Relax! You just need to do a little homework and you are all set.

First of all, when do you visit a fertility clinic;

• If your gynecologist recommends it

• If you have had more than one miscarriage

• If you are under 35 and haven’t become pregnant after trying for a year

• If you are over 35 and haven’t become pregnant after trying six months

• If the man has low sperm count or poor semen analysis

How to choose the right clinic?

Before you even narrow down on your searches, you will first have to make a list of all the procedures you might need down the road. How can you do that? A little research. Look at cases similar to you or talk to your gynecologist and make a list of the procedures and tests you might need. While you are at it, think it through completely because infertility treatments not only cost a lot, but they can also take a toll on your system.

This is because most treatments involve heavy drugs and hormonal treatments. It can also be extremely emotional, so no matter what, talk to your spouse or someone close to you if something bothers you. Moreover, when you have done a thorough research, it will prevent you from being talked into some new procedure, which may not be worth it and probably burn a hole in your pocket.

When you are choosing the clinic, look at their success rates. If you can, talk to their ex-patients. And, if someone recommends a clinic, which was the best years ago, keep in mind, it might not be the same today. As the years pass by, the staff may have changed, and the facilities may not have been updated. Once you have chosen the top three clinics, visit their premises and talk to them. Below is the list of questions you must ask your fertility clinic;

• How long have the medical directors, doctors, and the technicians been working here? If the staff turnover is very high, it can be a red flag.

• What are the most common procedures you do? How often do you choose them? This will help you understand all their treatments and if they offer a wide range of infertility treatments.

• Are there age limits? The answer must be a ‘yes’. It means that the hospital is ethical and does not do it only for money.

• During the egg extraction and fertilization, who decides how many eggs are put back inside the womb? Is it the doctor or the patient?

• What is the cost? You may not want to decide on the basis of the cost, but you must know clearly what you are getting into. If you have more questions, you can always visit your nearest Apollo fertility clinic.
